“My First Year at School” -Abbe Grace

My mom ran into my room at 6:37 A.M. to wake me up for school. I know the exact time because I always look to see if my mom is late to wake me up. I just learned how to read time, so I do it all the time. I used to get really excited getting up for school, but now I can barely open my eyeballs. I slowly walked down to the kitchen, pausing on every step trying to sneakily watch more T.V. before I have to eat my breakfast. I see some scrambled eggs on the counter. I whine about them because we had them yesterday for breakfast and I want waffles this morning. After mom yelled at me, I went to the table and shoved the eggs in my mouth. I did not want to be downstairs anymore because my brothers, Hayden and Nolan, were making faces at me for crying about breakfast. They were mouthing “you baby” at me while mom wasn’t looking. I ran upstairs to go get ready for school. My mom had laid out clothes that match on my floor for the day, but I decided to pick new ones that I think match. Next I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair. I only brush the top layer of my hair because my hair is too knotty to brush the rest. Then I brush my teeth with Hayden’s toothbrush since he was making fun of me at breakfast. After I finish, I race downstairs because my mom is yelling that we are late. I hop in the car and she races out of the driveway. We barely make it to school on time. Mom walks me to my class like she does every day. My teacher, Mrs. Webb, greets me at the door, and I go sit at the green table. I have lots friends at this table: Jillian, Parker, Blaine, and Oliver. Oliver is new to the class. I was super excited when Mrs. Webb told us we were getting a new student because his name is Oliver and mine is Olive. I hoped that Oliver and I would be friends, but I was wrong. He is a very naughty kid. He never listens to Mrs. Webb and he is always getting our table in trouble for talking. But today, Oliver was been weirdly nice. He said hi to me and asked if I wanted to draw with him. I said yes because drawing is one of my favorite things to do. We began to draw all over the white board in the back of the classroom. We decided to draw houses and people since that is basically all we know how to draw. In the middle of drawing he said he had to go to the bathroom. I watched him leave the classroom turning the corner towards the bathroom. I went back to drawing my house with my mom and brothers in it. A few minutes later he came back and our teacher told us to go back to our seats because it was time to start class. While I was walking back, I noticed that Oliver was laughing to himself. I sat down in my chair and quickly stood up. He put glue in my chair. When he came back from the bathroom he must have stolen the glue from our table and poured it on my chair. He thought it was so funny; he was cracking up in his chair. I am no stranger to pranks growing up with two older brothers. I quickly got up and went to go tell on Oliver to Mrs. Webb, just like I tell on my brothers to my mom. Mrs. Webb stomped over to Oliver and sent him to the principal’s office. Next Mrs. Webb sent me to the nurse’s office to see if she had any extra pants that would fit me since I have glue all over mine. The nurse happened to have some pink sweats in the extra clothes bin. I am very excited because pink is my favorite color, and I just got a new pair of pants. I am not excited to go back to class though because everyone in the class knew what Oliver did and they all thought it was funny. I really didn’t want to go back to class, but I did because the nurse told me to go straight back. As soon as I sat back down in my seat, I realized that Mrs. Webb forgot to switch my chair with another one. Who knew kindergarten would be so difficult.
