Sophia Marshall – Oak

There once was an oak

And she stood,

Right in the center of the wood.

Her trunk was the thickest.

Her roots were the deepest

Her branches pointed high,

Up to the pale blue sky.

She thought she would never die.

Storms would come and go,

But she loved the sky so

She just stayed standing tall,

With not fear at all

And when the storms passed,

She could see her sky at last.

Happy was she,

Such a lovely, gentle tree.

But the oak was struck down

With lightning that shook the ground.

She was split in two,

And there was nothing anyone could do

Her leaves kissed the forest floor,

And she could see the sky no more.

This oak could die

Or she could choose to live, without her pale blue sky

She could give up,

Or find something new to love.

Because sometimes failure is just what you need

To truly succeed.
