“Soul of Manhattan” – Hannah Thiel

Each night stars breathe into the sky

Proud lights of these streets reflect back up to them

This is the gleam to night’s black shadow

This is Time Square.

Don’t be afraid; keep that gaze out the window.

It’s true here is the city that never sleeps.

Morning makes cotton candy clouds.

The evening paints them blood orange.

Daylight exposes mear crystals in blue waves.

The Atlantic sparkles; moves rapidly,

always to it’s own rhythm alike the city rush hour.

I know the ways of this place intimidate.

Only home in the soul of manhattan

Tides lie beneath a candy apple jewel

This is the Brooklyn Bridge.

Don’t be afraid; keep that gaze out the window

New York City.

The restless beauty

Always find my way back here,

just float in the eye of the hurricane.

Only home in the soul of Manhattan
